Hi,
Following an article on OK1RR web site, I decided to try an EWE antenna.
Dimensions are
3 meter high for each vertical part.
Horizontal wire = 6 meters
I use a FT140-43 toroid wounded with separate primary (transceiver) and secondary (antenna). Primary is 7 turns, secondary is 21 turns (so a ratio of 3 in turns means a ratio of 9 for impedance --> The antenna is close to 450 Ohms !!!!!!)
I use one 6 feet ground rod for each feeding and terminal point. Resistor used is 4 times 3KOhms in parallel (so 750 Ohms).
The antenna is "beaming" North-West.
As for now (only 2 days of use), I could hezr DU9, JA's and 4S7 on 40m....One JA on 80m (but not so many active there).
On 40m and 80m, signals are respectively 2 and 3 S-meter points less than the vertical (typically in direction of DL and PA's), but no more noise, at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm used to have S5-S6 noise floor on both bands, But what a S/N improvment !!!!!!!!!!!!! Low bands are so clear now, that you can copy even weak signals very well !!!!!!
Too early to talk about F/B...I just can say the main lobe seems large, but when stations (EA4 near Mardid area for example) are in the exact alignement on the rear of the antenna, Level are almost 6 S-meter point less than the HF2V (which means 4 S-meter point of F/B, close to 20-25dB, not bad !!!!!!!!!!!!)
Next step : 4 direction switchable EWE, HI !!!!!!!!!!!!
