I had the opportunity to work at night time on 80m in the last couple of weeks, and I noted that my noise level was constantly over S5 here, sometimes peaking to S9 when I have some electrical crashes.
It is quite difficult to output from this noise "small" signals stations...And I really have to find a way to decrease this noise.
2 actions here:
- Try to invest in a DSP filter such as the JPS NIR-12
- Fianlly mount my small FLAG antenna (2/2m, with 800Ohm termination)...Even the gain will be low on 80m (around -35dB), my "40 dB" preamplifier should do the trick. I plan to modify it to have an intermediate gain stage (20 or 40 dB), depending on the necessity for such as such gain.
In parallel, despite of this high noise, I could hear (but not work) a few nice DX's, such as TO3R, 5X1GS and JW5NM...But each time, Europe zoo was there, with its lot of indiscipline....
Anyway, I now have 105 DXCC contacted on 80m, and 150 on 40m..Not so bad after 6 months on the HF2V...
