What a fight yesterday afternoon to get through the pile-up/zoo on 40m SSB.
Willis is a tough location to QSO with from the western part of EU (atlantic coast), especially on the low bands where the sunset accurs later than the rest of Europe.
This is a big drawbavk on the low bands.
But about 1.5 hour before sunset yesterday, VK9DWX signal was peaking up to 5/7 here, and the split was rather large (lsn 10 to 20 down).
i decided to take my chance and started to listen the split to know how this DX was listening in this 10KHz band.
His method was quite easy to understand : 2 or 3 QSO's every KHz from minus 10 down to -20KHz, then coming back to -10Khz by the same 1 KHz step.
I was lucky enough that some stupid hams (including french guys !!!!!!! what a shame) were QRM'ing the DX frequency. This had the advantage of slowing down the zoo (which couldn't listen to the DX anymore)....When the QRM stopped, I was on the frequency of the last QSO, + 1KHz....
I spent about 1 hour like this, following the DX in his split, waiting for the QRM tp stop, when I heard "Fox Charly Fox Charly, your call?". I replied giving my call a couple of times, and gave him a generous 5/9 report..
When trying to get my report, I could just get "Fox 8....................your 5/9, tnx"...QRM from EU was coming up again on his freq !!!!!
I decided to give up and wait the update on the on-line log..And here I am, well logged also on 40m SSB....
